Wolfgang Puck WPTPCM010 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker with Stainless-Steel Thermal Carafe

Chrome exterior, brush aluminum body.

Copper heating system, coffee never in contact with aluminum. Auto-off after brewing.

Adjustable brew basket - controls brew time and acts as drip stop for serving during brewing.

European 10 Cup (42 oz) thermal stainless steel lined serving carafe, holds brewed coffee at ideal serving temperature.

This review is from: Wolfgang Puck WPTPCM010 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker with Stainless-Steel Thermal CarafeUpdate: This note is being added about 6 months after my inital review. We too have experienced the problem with coffee overflowing on to the countertop. I very quickly learned that is after inserting the pot into the maker I pivot the pot so that the handle is as far left as possible, the spillage does not happen. This method has been successful for the past 200 pots made. It's a weird quirk that shouldn't be necessary, but I otherwise stand by my review. The best coffeemaker we have ever owned is a long since discontinued Starbucks Barista with a thermal carafe. It was close to perfection for almost 10 years. Even after some trim pieces fell off, it continued to be a reliable performer. After several years of regular use, the plate on the bottom of the carafe top began to break, one piece at a time. The Barista continued to make great coffee, it just didn't hold the temperature as well as it originally did.Earlier this year we despaired that we would have to go back to buying makers that work for a few months and then die. My wife, after hours of searching spotted this familiar face in the crowd. We ordered in December and it arrived today. To say it was worth the wait is an understatement. We now know that we have years of fresh, hot, reliable coffee making ahead of us. The only difference between this model and the original Starbucks is the it now uses a cone filter instead of a flat bottom. No big deal at all.Footnote: "Old Reliable" the Starbucks Barista worked right through this morning, its retirement day. It's not headed for the trash however, there spare parts to be salved for our beautiful new baby. When, (and if), this machine becomes available again, click 'n' buy. You won't regret it!...This review is from: Wolfgang Puck WPTPCM010 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker with Stainless-Steel Thermal CarafeI owned a Capresso for years but it is slowly falling apart. I bought this unit as it is the ONLY coffee machine now for sale with a removable water carafe and thermal pot. As far as I am concerned, that's the only design that makes sense, and I can't believe that everyone else wants to haul a bucket of water from the sink over to their coffee maker every day.The Puck is taller than the Capresso and not necessarily very pretty or sleek. Coffee brewed much quicker than the Capresso and tastes pretty good. It makes a continuous low-level roar while brewing. The pot pour button is poorly designed - you have to turn the pot almost upside down to work, and even then it just dribles out. You can't swing the filter in if the pot is in place. And the water carafe seating does not leave me feeling very confident; I have a feeling it will bust before long. My final nit is that the bluish lcd display is way over-kill - enough with blue lights lighting up my house all night!Update: After 2 months, this machine is not ready for prime time. The water carafe drips if filled more than 1/4 full, the thermos won't go under the basket without violent jiggling, and I don't expect it to last more than a few more months. As an earlier reviewer noted, the manufacturing is "out of spec" or something. My suggestion, wait a few months until they get the manufacturing plant in line....This review is from: Wolfgang Puck WPTPCM010 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker with Stainless-Steel Thermal CarafeUnfortunately we didn't read the reviews before ordering this coffee maker. We had it boxed and ready to ship back when I popped on to see if anyone else was having the flooding issue. That is when I discovered that EVERYONE was having the overflow issue. My brilliant husband Robert unpacked the coffee maker and promptly went out to his shop area and cut a disc the diameter of the bottom of the coffee carafe from a piece of 1/4" masonite. Problem solved!! The spring on the top of the carafe doesn't get depressed far enough to allow the coffee to flow into the pot properly. Putting that 1/4" spacer under the carafe is all it needed. We are happy, we love the way the coffee maker makes and keeps coffee. Robert also painted the disc black once he knew it was going to work. It looks like it belongs to the unit....

Mr. Coffee 8-Cup Thermal Programmable Coffeemaker

This review is from: Mr. Coffee 8-Cup Thermal Programmable CoffeemakerOk, I have owned thermal coffee makers before, so I am used to how they work. If you have any issues with the lid, read the manual and do not complain about it. These reviews about how the lid is not easy to work and that the coffee spills all over is purely based on people who are lazy, and/or do not follow directions. If you simply close the lid all the way before you brew, NOTHING will spill and all of the coffee will go into the carafe. Also, if you need extremely hot coffee when you drink it, then preheat the carafe with hot water before you brew the coffee. If not, your coffee will still be pretty hot, but not scalding like normal warming plate coffee makers. By the way, warming plate coffee makers always overcook the coffee and make it stale 99% of the time. I prefer a bit less hot coffee where the taste is still in tact. The coffee tastes wonderful in this coffee maker, and is just as good as most of the $100 to $199 coffee makers. This thing is very compact, and not as tall as other thermal coffee makers. The brew process is slower than other coffee makers, but this is how it should be. You want the full flavor of the coffee, not just a hint of it with boiling water added. Not all things need to be so expedient. Waiting for a nice cup of brewed coffee in this machine is worth it. But if you cannot wait and need it right away, set the timer and wake up to hot coffee waiting for your drinking enjoyment. So in a nutshell, if you have never owned a thermal coffee maker, read the directions. If you have problems with the lid or the temperature not being 2000 degrees Fahrenheit, don't buy it. However, if you are not a lazy person, am able to wait 5 minutes instead of 2, and know how to line up arrows on a lid......this coffee maker is for you! I love this coffee maker, and it does an excellent job. The coffee is very robust and flavorful. The machine is very quiet, and works exactly as it is supposed to. The temperature of the coffee is very hot, and is still quite hot after adding a refrigerated creamer to it. I have no qualms with this machine, and the price is perfect for what you get. Please take this review for what it is worth, for I am a very educated coffee consumer. I have owned numerous coffee machines, and this is right up there with the best of them. No, I do not work for Mr. Coffee is case you were wondering :-)...This review is from: Mr. Coffee 8-Cup Thermal Programmable CoffeemakerIt works - and I don't mind twisting a lid half-way open to pour coffee... I'm rough & tough...I grind my own organic beans, so I'm a bit picky about burnt-flavored brews... Burning it hurts it's constitution - therefore just won't do... I like my coffee strong... I like it to reach out and grab me by the throat while gulping it down, shouting, "I'm coffee!!!" - with no other surprises...Many of the varied coffee makers I've used over the years have tended to muffle the flavors. I suspect it may be their water sprinkling systems - I dunno... All I know is this coffeemaker makes it full-body, full strength - and with a wee less beans than with other machines, too... And because I drink my coffee thick and mean - God knows that I really don't need large volumes of the stuff..! So a couple of cups a day is all I want to get me into my wide-awake, work, and gab-alot mode... The carafe makes four mugs-full and that's enough for me and the spouse - with another pot for an after-dinner dessert, perhaps.Ok -Pros- I think this coffeemaker makes coffee plenty hot enough - yet without the fear of it being overly cooked. Perhaps some people are used to hot-plates, common on other coffeemakers - which does tend to make for hotter (often cooked) brews... The timer and the other controls are easy to read and use... It's not hard at all to clean, if you rinse out the pot and filter cup with hot water right after the machine's been emptied, and then wipe the machine down where needed... You're also going to need a type of bottle brush to scrub the inside of the carafe, occasionaly, and, rarely, for the water resevoir, but it's not all that bothersome...And -Cons- It does take getting used to living with the stainless steal thermo-carafe... It also takes an extra step and hand to work the lid - but becomes easy, once you get used to lining up the arrows in order to close for brewing - and half-open for pouring... Plus I discovered that by screwing the lid shut - it has kept the flavor and richness of the coffee contained - much better than those breezy flip-lids of the glass pots do... So I've grown to appreciate it - lots, actually... It's weightier-bottom, ace-of-spades shape does make it a bit awkward at first in pouring that last cup, but I've gotten used to it... So, Four Stars**** from me..! - This particular Mr. Coffee coffemaker does brew an excellent pot of coffee, in my humble oppinion - with the only minor drawback in learning to live with the thermo-carafe...There are some folks that like blistering-hot coffee - but not me... I prefere it hot - yet not painful, and so with my other coffeemakers I found myself turning the things off as soon as they finished brewing, so the hot-plates wouldn't burn the coffee as it sat there, sometimes hours on end - while staining the sides of the glass carafes those interesting baked-on patterns in shades of brown... This, of course, made the first cup hot - but then the rest of the pot would become luke-warm to cool - so then my microwave oven came into play... Now it's nice to have warm, eye-popping coffee, without the use of an extra major appliance - and the added electricity expense for either the microwave or the hot-plate...And besides, microwaving a cup brewed from organic hoity-toity beans - well, it just ain't goshe'......This review is from: Mr. Coffee 8-Cup Thermal Programmable CoffeemakerThis is probably one of the less expensive coffee makers with a st...

This review is from: Black & Decker DCM2500W SmartBrew 12-Cup Coffeemaker, WhiteWe all know the problem coffee makers. They have mysterious water leaks, they don't drip into the carafe correctly, the filter basket overflows if it isn't perfectly in place.Black and Decker (B&D) has designed a coffee maker that is inexpensive and simply eliminates those problems...How I know: I got this coffee maker for the office. We brew at least three 12-cup pots a day. We've done about 100 pots WITHOUT A SPILL OR LEAK. I highly recommend this machine. What I know: The "Perfect Pour Carafe" is great. B&D just gave it a wider spout! What a concept! You wouldn't think a handle makes a big difference, but when you're carrying 12-cups-worth of water or coffee, you will suddenly appreciate this excellent handle. This carafe even looks nice. The filter basket does not swing out, nor must you hold it in one hand while you add the coffee. Swing-out baskets are the ones that overflow when you don't close them perfectly, and slide-out removable baskets leave only one hand for the scooping chores. This basket can be removed to dump the old grounds, but is then replaced in the machine so both hands are free. That is because the lid opens up to expose the filter basket and the unobstructed, large water resevoir. No careful aiming or water splashing off of useless plastic grates when filling. There is a strange looking, hinged "shower head" that delivers the hot water to the filter basket. It is simple in design and works well. The lid closes securely and pins down the removable filter basket to further eliminate human error in basket positioning.Even the "sneak a cup" mechanism is simple and effective. It is simply a rubber stopper on a simple lever. The carafe can be placed in a "wrong" and possibly overflow-producing position, but if you place it with the handle straight out, you can't go wrong.Water level is indicated externally on both sides of the machine.Auto shut-off after two hours is essential in our office. It works and the coffee is kept quite hot during that time.Easy to clean (buttons are water/coffee proof).Need I say more?...This review is from: Black & Decker DCM2500W SmartBrew 12-Cup Coffeemaker, WhiteI've seen some negative reviews on here of this coffeemaker, and I felt that I should write a review of a positive experience to give some perspective.I've had this coffeemaker for about a year and a half, and I don't have any complaints. No parts have broken, the clock is accurate, the timer still functions, I still wake up every morning to a nice fresh pot of coffee. The lip of the pot is well formed, so that you never spill when you're pouring a cup. These are all simple things, but coffee is a simple thing. If you don't notice your coffeemaker, that means that it was designed well. This is an inexpensive, reliable coffee machine. In fact, I've even abused the little guy. I like to make Thai iced tea, but I'm also too lazy to use a teapot, so I'll run my tea through it three or four times until it's dark enough, and it still holds up like a champ. Here are some of the convenient features:- Water window on the side, so you can see how much water you're putting in without having to measure using the pot.- Timer feature so you can wake up to pre-brewed coffee without waiting.- Sturdy, elegant pot design. The pot can be put in the dishwasher with no problems, and the large handle means you'll never drop it.- Auto-off feature that turns the heating element off after two hours. (Another reviewer mentioned that there was no auto-off, which is incorrect)- Large capacity scales well. By this, I mean that it makes two cups of coffee just as easily as it makes 12 cups, so it's good for a morning alone, or if you want a lot of coffee for several people. The reason I didn't give it a five is that there are a few minor drawbacks:- It's a little difficult to clean, because of the design of the pot and the maker itself. Not terribly difficult, but a tad annoying.- The "sneak a cup" feature isn't perfect, it can leak a couple drops when you use it. However, I use the timer, so never have to sneak a cup, you can just have a pot ready whenever you want. But honestly, these drawbacks are inconsequential. You're not going to find a better coffeemaker for under $30 with this many features, and this kind of reliability. I highly recommend it....This review is from: Black & Decker DCM2500W SmartBrew 12-Cup Coffeemaker, WhiteNow we know why this coffee maker was rated so highly (a "best buy") by THE respected consumer magazine. Not only does it brew a flavorful cup of coffee at just the right strength (following their recommended one scoop of coffee per two cups), but the unit has the most wanted features of coffee makers without spending two-to-three times the price. The keep-hot plate auto-shutoff, and digital clock timer that allows one to setup the pot the night before and awake to freshly brewed coffee, is convenience at the utmost. The programming (including just setting the correct time, that displays in very bright red LED numbers) was a snap. (We also did buy separately a permanent gold filter, which fits perfectly.) While we have seen a number of complaints from other reviewers about the quality of this item, so far in several months of daily use we are completely satisfied. Stay tuned....
