This review is from: Technivorm Moccamaster Kbt741I purchased my Technivorm Moccamaster KBT 741 from Transcend Coffee, Alberta, Canada. I also tried to review the product on their website, but as it turns out they are only interested in posting accolades, not objective reviews. I also emailed my concerns directly to Technivorm, but have not had any response from them, which I think speaks to the level of customer service one can expect from them.So here goes...The Technivorm does, indeed, make a great cup of coffee. No arguments from me.My issue with this machine starts with my first impression of it out of the box. Why is it made with such flimsy, cheap plastic? But upon further inspection, I see that plastic is #7, Polycarbonate plastic. BPA. Realizing some people aren't buying into all the hype surrounding BPA plastics, others are concerned about it and as a result are purging it from their cupboards. Many manufacturers have relabeled their products so you know their goods are BPA Free. I am of the opinion that if one is going to pay $300.00 Canadian)for a coffee brewer it should be made from high quality materials and not contain any BPA. With all the hype about this product not being made in China (as it's only SCAA approved rival, Newco OCS-8 is) it may as well be made in China if it's made with #7 Plastic.I would hope the folks at Technivorm would consider manufacturing their otherwise top notch brewer with BPA Free materials in the future. I would also like to see them offer BPA Free replacement parts for those of us who already have a machine and would like to continuing using it without worry. However, considering they didn't even bother to respond to my email, I won't hold my breath. The 'way cheaper' Newco OCS-8 might be worth a second look before buying the Technivorm....This review is from: Technivorm Moccamaster Kbt741Before trying this coffee machine, I thought that all coffee makers are basically the same: you pour in water, out comes coffee. Wrong! I've compared 2 different machines: A. good Cuisinart coffee maker vs B. the Moccamaster. Despite using the same coffee beans & grind, I was surprised to find that the taste was dramatically different. Here's my findings.Cuisinart: - Coffee wasn't hot but warm. Tasted bitter.- Thermal Carafe doesn't retain heat too wellMoccamaster: - Coffee was HOT. Taste was flavorful, rich, without any bitterness. - Thermal Carafe keeps coffee hot for hoursThe only shortcoming that Moccamaster has is that it doesn't have a auto-shutoff when coffee is done. Often on, people forget to turn off the switch and it stays on for hours while no coffee is brewing. Other than that, this is the best tasting coffee maker I've tried....This review is from: Technivorm Moccamaster Kbt741I have had my Technivorm for over 6 years. After purchasing probably every major brand, Cuisinart, Krups, Mr. Coffee and some others I finally gave up. Although this model is very expensive compared to others and lacks many of the nice features like a timer, this machine will out-last them all. This makes coffee quick and really hot, and then stays warm for hours in the thermal carafe. The machine has very few parts and almost no maintenance. I use a commercial machine cleaner every few months and that is it. If you like a good cup of coffee made at home, this is the machine for you. Everything else is a bad imitation....
